Albert
Lorenz, known for his intricate and complex drawings,
is the author of several books, Metropolis—Ten Cities Ten
Centuries (1996), House (1998), Jack and
the Beanstalk (2000), and A Journey to Cahokia (2004),
all published by Harry N. Abrams.
He is the creator of the popular “Buried Blueprints” puzzle series
and has won numerous honors and awards for his illustrations, including the
Gold Medal from the Los Angeles Society of Illustrators for his illustrations
from Metropolis. His work has been published in the New York Times, National
Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Architectural Record, and many other periodicals.
He has received commissions from the American Institute of Architects, the
New York Museum of Modern Art, and the New York American Museum of Natural
History.
Lorenz recently retired from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY where he was Institute
Distinguished Professor. He now teaches illustration at Adelphi University
on Long Island and is working on a new book The Trojan Horse to be published
September 2004. In addition, he continues to develop new fantasy images for
his series “Legends Around the World”.
